Pinnacle Sports and Exercise Physicians
Pinnacle Sports Physicians was founded in 2020 by Dr Eloise Matthews and our primary clinic is in Ferrymead Christchurch. Pinnacle Sports Physicians is delighted to offer 4 different sport and exercise physicians and 3 sport and exercise medicine registrars to assist you to return to your chosen sport or activity as soon and as safely as possible. Together we have expertise across all sports and injury types and pride ourselves on clear concise communication and holistic care. We are committed to educating the next generation of sport and exercise physicians and to servicing rural and remote parts of the South Island using Telehealth whenever appropriate.
Pinnacle Sports Physicians have doctors with governance or leadership roles across Sport Integrity New Zealand, Crusaders, Mainland Tactics, RESS ICP, Winter Olympics, Matatu, ACC working groups and ACSEP (Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians).
Acute Clinics are run for acute injuries such as ACL rupture in the knee, lis franc rupture in the foot or shoulder dislocation. These can be booked within a week.

The Lung Mechanic
Catherine is a respiratory physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience working in Australia, England, and New Zealand. She supports children, youth, and adults in managing breathing difficulties, including breathlessness, chest tightness, anxiety-related breathing, asthma, persistent cough, chronic lung conditions, and post-COVID symptoms. She also addresses related issues such as sleep difficulties and sports performance
Her approach combines breathing retraining, airway clearance, exercise guidance, and education to help people improve respiratory function , self-manage their condition and optimise performance. Catherine works closely with  respiratory and other specialists.
Catherine holds a BPhty, is NZRP and MPNZ registered, and is a member of PNZ cardiorespiratory and mental health specialist interest groups as well as TSANZ. She has a Certificate of Proficiency in Breathing, Performance and Rehabilitation (AUT) and is Bradcliff Method certified. She is also ACC registered.
Outside of work, Catherine is a busy mum of four and enjoys dragon boating.

A J Powell Orthopaedics
Dr Andrew Powell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee and complex trauma surgery. He practices at Christchurch Hospital and in private practice at Leinster Orthopaedics, St George’s Hospital, Southern Cross and Forte Hospitals.
Andrew’s areas of expertise include all aspects of knee surgery, sports knee injuries, complex trauma and revision surgery for non-healing cases, limb reconstruction, deformity correction, and leg lengthening surgery.
He completed extensive sub-specialty training through international fellowships, including trauma fellowships in Cape Town, Vancouver, and Baltimore, and a knee fellowship at Auckland Middlemore.
Andrew is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago, a supervisor for the Christchurch trauma fellowship, and an active member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, NZ Orthopaedic Association, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and AO Trauma Foundation national teaching faculty.
