Osteoarthritis Management

Active Health QEII has developed an evidence-based programme to manage knee and hip osteoarthritis (OA).

Based on evidence from recent research the Active Health QEII physiotherapists have developed an osteoarthritis specific exercise class. The class is a circuit style allowing for variations in individuals ability.

Our podiatry team, headed by Simon Wheeler along with Kirwan Franke have also developed an OA management plan based on current evidence.

Studies show increased joint loading increases the risk of osteoarthritis progression, but this is amenable to change. Orthotics, insoles and footwear offer great potential, as simple, inexpensive treatment strategies for knee osteoarthritis.

Recent research also allows us to make recommendations for use of footwear to specifically improve pain levels in those suffering from knee osteoarthritis. The earlier the intervention the better the results.
